Karen grew up in China and graduated from the University of Tokyo before beginning her career at Merrill Lynch Japan. She moved to London for Deutsche Bank and then to New York for Goldman Sachs before joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch in 2010. She rose quickly to Global Head of Infrastructure & Sustainable Finance, added the role of Co-Head of Global Capital Solutions in 2025, and is a member of the bank’s Management Committee. Karen leads BofA’s efforts to deliver innovative capital solutions for clients across public and private markets in sectors such as energy, power, and digital infrastructure, including data centers and AI ecosystems. She is also responsible for the firm’s strategy to deliver $1.5 trillion in sustainable finance capital over 10 years by 2030. She has been recognized on Fortune’s “40 Under 40,” as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, and in the “TIME100 Climate” list of the world’s most influential climate leaders.
